GROWTH CURVE

 

 

If I could hold the souls I’ve known

 

            keep them close to my own

 

                        safe from cold winds and storms

 

                        safe from harm

 

 

 

If I could plead insanity for those

 

            occasions where hatred rose

 

                        smooth over tattered tissue

 

                        where scars were forced to issue

 

 

 

If I could once forgive

 

            remember how to live

 

                        breathe life into dreams of yore

 

                        where laughter lived once before

 

 

 

If I could twist the hands of fate

 

            teach them how to compensate

 

                        If I could turn back time…..

 

                        If I could turn back time…..

 

 

 

If I could give You only Joy

 

            see Your needs filled beyond measure

 

                        You would not need to know

 

                        that We really need Only to Grow

THE CHALLENGERS

 

 

They challenge me with words that are

 

            not about profit

 

they bring the landscape into focus with

 

            wildflowers and wind

 

 

 

They come tonight

 

            to challenge me once more

 

will they speak again with

 

            wisdom and sincerity?

 

 

 

Will they speak again with humour to make

 

            bearable pain?

 

and will they show me the depth of

 

            their souls?

 

 

 

They challenge me with thoughts that are

 

            not above humble

 

they bring the world into focus with

 

            gentleness and insight

 

 

 

and I thank them although

 

I am still looking for fireflies.

            can force action

 

                        from apathy

 

 

 

as though written

 

            is less obvious

 

                        than imagined

 

 

 

                        or felt

 

                        strong as … is

 

                                    necessary

 

 

 

            if so required

 

 

 

            less is
